This October, Mount Nittany Health is proud to join with local organizations to promote the safety of children in Centre County. As part of the Better 2gether Collab—a multi-organization team dedicated to advocating for the youth of Centre County—Mount Nittany Health partnered with the Centre County Youth Service Bureau, YMCA of Centre County, Centre Safe, and Centre County Children and Youth Services. Below are several events happening throughout the area where the community can learn, participate, and get support for the safety of children.

Stewards of Children

Steward of Children teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for organizations that serve youth and for individuals concerned about the safety of children. It is the only nationally distributed, evidence-based program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child protective behaviors. Stewards of Children is a two-hour workshop to emphasize child safety as an adult’s responsibility. Each participant will be inspired to take personal responsibility in preventing this epidemic.

October 19, 6:00-8:00 PM, via Zoom

October 24, 10:00-12:30 PM, via Zoom

November 6, 9:00-11:00 AM, State College YMCA

Smart Parents Workshop

These workshops help prepare caregivers for tough conversations with their youth including topics in healthy child sexual development, creating positive channels of communication, and fostering a protective environment, to empower parents to better protect their youth.

October 26, 5:30-7:30 PM, via Zoom

Car Seat Safety Check

Join the Pennsylvania State Police for a car seat safety check. Troopers will help ensure your little ones are buckled in correctly.

Additional Resources

Founded in 2014, Mount Nittany Health Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) has served the needs of families by providing a child-focused center that facilitates a compassionate, multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, identification, intervention, and treatment of child abuse.

The CAC is a safe and comfortable place where children come to talk with a specially trained interviewer about possible abuse or crimes they may have witnessed. The CAC receives referrals from child protective services or law enforcement if there is concern that a child is an alleged victim or witness of a crime. A visit to the CAC gives the child an opportunity to talk about his or her experience in a child-friendly, safe and comfortable setting.

For more information about the CAC, visit: mountnittany.org/childadvocacycenter or call 814.234.6118. If you or someone you love suspects abuse or neglect of children, contact the Centre County Office of Children & Youth Services at 814.355.6755.
