Jessica Comly, RN, Women and Children’s Services, was recently honored with the DAISY Award for her exceptional care of a first-time mother delivering at Mount Nittany Medical Center. During the family’s stay, Jessica went to great lengths to see that they were comfortable, informed and treated with the utmost respect. She was thorough when answering questions and made the entire family feel at ease from the moment they were admitted, until they left with their newborn.

Created by the family of Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease in 1999, the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international program designed to recognize exceptional care in the nursing community. A global program with over 5,000 participating healthcare facilities across all 50 states and 31 countries, nurses throughout Mount Nittany Health have the opportunity to receive prestigious recognition as DASIY award recipients.

Jessica’s nominator discussed her incredible experience delivering at Mount Nittany Medical Center: “I delivered my first child here in October of 2021. Jessica was very patient with both myself and my husband. She talked with us and treated us as if we had known her all our lives. She took the time to get to know us personally, rather than just another patient needing care. She ensured my husband was also cared for. She kept reminding him of his role during the birth of our child, making sure he ate and rested too, so that he could be there to support me. She answered all of my questions and helped prepare me for what I could expect during delivery. She held my hands during my epidural and made that very scary moment so relaxing and easy for me. She kept telling us she hoped I would deliver on her shift so she could be there for me, my husband and the baby. She made the entire experience from my admission, to my delivery so welcoming, so enjoyable, so relaxing and really just amazing! I hope when I deliver another child here, that she is my nurse again!”

Jessica gave birth to her son at Mount Nittany Medical Center which inspired her to pursue a career with Women and Children’s Services. She wanted other families to receive the same outstanding care that she was fortunate to experience, and felt that she could have a positive impact by decreasing patient fears surrounding childbirth. “I never imagined I would receive this award,” said Jessica. “It made my day and I am so grateful.”

Please take a minute to congratulate Jessica on being a DAISY Award recipient and thank her for being an exceptional Mount Nittany Health ambassador. Jessica, thank you for your commitment to providing compassionate and excellent care in our community and congratulations on this well-deserved honor.
