Mount Nittany Health is pleased to recognize January 22 – 28, 2023, as National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) Week.

Since 2000, National CRNA Week has been the annual celebration of our nation’s Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and nurse anesthesia students. The highly respected profession of nurse anesthesia traces its origins to the 1860s, when nurses eased the suffering of wounded soldiers in the Civil War. Today, CRNAs deliver essential healthcare in thousands of communities nationwide.

Today there are nearly 59,000 CRNAs and nurse anesthesia students throughout the United States who administer more than 53 million anesthetics each year. CRNAs provide care to patients before, during, and after surgery, and are crucial to providing patients with a full understanding of how a procedure will be approached. They work in a variety of medical settings and act as a liaison between patients and their providers.

Mount Nittany Medical Center has an incredible team of more than 30 CRNAs who care for patients of all ages. They provide anesthesia in many areas including the operating room, surgery center, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization lab and MRI. The services of our CRNAs are invaluable to our patients and providers. We are grateful for their skill, accuracy and allowing our patients to undergo procedures safely and, without unnecessary pain.

Our CRNAs are hardworking and compassionate professionals who take exceptional care of our patients system wide,” said Jen Gilbert, DO, Acting Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. “I am grateful each day for their attention to detail and dedication. I hope everyone will join us in celebrating CRNA week this year!”

Please join us in applauding our incredible team of CRNAs at Mount Nittany Health. This week and every week, we are so grateful for the compassionate care they provide and for contributing to our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
