Mount Nittany Health is pleased to celebrate January 12th as National Pharmacist Day. On this special occasion, we celebrate the incredible work that our pharmacists do for our patients each day.
Pharmacists are widely involved in all aspects of patient care. They advise patients and health care professionals on the selection, dosages, interactions and side effects of prescription medications, and act as an intermediary between prescribers and patient. From ibuprofen for headaches, to complex chemotherapy for patients with cancer, registered pharmacists work closely to ensure drug therapy is customized to each patient’s needs. By monitoring the health and progress of patients, they can ensure the safe and effective use of medications. Pharmacists work in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, outpatient areas, community environments, specialty pharmacies, drug stores and more.
Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Pharmacy Department is comprised of more than 20 pharmacists who offer services that go above and beyond the typical inpatient services seen in most hospital pharmacies. At Mount Nittany Medical Center, our pharmacists can be found attending to codes in the ED and ICU, ensuring patients are receiving appropriate chemotherapy in the Cancer Center, managing patients on blood thinners in the Anticoagulation Clinic and following up with patients at Mount Nittany Health’s physician group to ensure their medication lists are appropriate.
Please join us in celebrating Mount Nittany Medical Center’s exceptional team of pharmacists who exemplify our organizational values each day while providing exceptional clinical care to those in our community. Thank you for all you do for our organization and for helping us fulfill our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
