Mount Nittany Health is partnering with Centre Volunteers in Medicine to offer no-cost, Low-Dose CT lung screenings to those who qualify. Low-Dose Chest CT detects small spots on the lungs, called nodules, in approximately 25% of patients. The Low-Dose Chest CT requires minimal doses of radiation to take pictures of patient's lungs. Lung cancer screening can reduce chances of death by up to 20%.

Mount Nittany Health’s Lung Cancer Screening Program aims to help patients detect lung cancer early and with minimal harm. The use of a Low-Dose Chest CT has been shown to improve the chances of recovery in patients aged 50 – 80 who are or were heavy smokers.

To qualify, patients must meet the following criteria:

  •        Aged 50 to 80 years old
  •        A smoker, or a person who quit less than 15 years ago, for example, one pack per day for 20 years
  •        No new symptoms potentially related to lung cancer
  •        Be able to tolerate treatment intended to cure early-stage lung cancer
  •        Have not had a chest CT in the last year

Screenings will be held on Saturday, November 5, from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. by appointment only.

This event was made possible in large part due to a significant estate gift from the late Dottie Huck, a generous donor to Mount Nittany Health Foundation.

At Mount Nittany Health, radiologists with expertise in chest imaging review and evaluate every Chest CT result. Mount Nittany Health also has a dedicated Lung Nodule Coordinator who ensures your provider is aware of follow up needs and offers guidance and education for your provider.

To learn more and to register, patients should contact Katelyn Grados, Lung Nodule Coordinator, Mount Nittany Health, at (814) 231-6881 by October 14, 2022.
