Mount Nittany Health is pleased to announce that Mount Nittany Medical Center’s cancer program has earned three-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons.

"Quality, comprehensive cancer care is a vital resource we’re proud to provide to the region,” says Kathleen Rhine, president and CEO, Mount Nittany Health. “The most important aspect of this accreditation is that it ensures our patients and community can rely on us for exceptional care.”

To earn CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

  • Quality of care standards of the accreditation include:
  • A multispecialty team approach to coordinate the best individual treatment options
  • Information about ongoing clinical trials and the newest treatment options
  • Access to cancer-related information, education and support
  • A cancer registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results
  • Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
  • A lifelong patient follow-up program

The Medical Center’s cancer program is dedicated to delivering the highest level of oncology services and cancer care through an integrated network of physicians, providers and partners, and offers a large array of progressive cancer services and leading-edge technologies for diagnosis, treatment and therapy. Patients receive treatment using the most sophisticated diagnostic and radiation oncology systems in the field of cancer treatment today.
