Mount Nittany Health is pleased to announce that Mount Nittany Medical Center has received 5-stars, the highest rating given by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Five-Star Quality Rating System. With an overall national hospital average of 3 out of 5 stars, the Medical Center is now one of just 11 hospitals in PA with 5 stars, and one of less than 300 in the US with this achievement.
“All Mount Nittany Health staff and providers play a role in delivering high quality, safe care through our focus on putting patients first,” says Kathleen Rhine, president and CEO, Mount Nittany Health. “This accolade is an impressive achievement for the entire health system, and underscores that our community can rely on us for exceptional care - every way that it's measured.”
The CMS ratings – one of numerous hospital ratings systems – covers data from 2017-18, and measures metrics in 57 areas, including mortality rates, readmission rates, safety of care, patient experience, efficient use of medical imaging, timeliness of care and effectiveness of care. The ratings are part of a CMS refresh of its Hospital Compare website. Since 2016, the organization has published ratings of more than 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals, with the intent to help patients select a provider based on performance in the aforementioned metrics.
