State College native Brandon Ream, a former football player at The Pennsylvania State University, passed away after a battle with bone cancer in 2013 at the age of 29.

To honor his memory and help support those facing similar challenges, Brandon’s wife, Samantha, and their family, established a Team Ream Fund through Mount Nittany Health Foundation.

The most recent Team Ream event was held on Sunday, January 13, at the Penn State Men’s Basketball game. Team Ream donated a generous gift of $40,000 to the Team Ream Fund at Mount Nittany Health Foundation. Since 2014, Team Ream has supported the community through the fund with $150,000. “We are thrilled to be able to assist the everyday lives of financially disadvantaged individuals in the Centre Region who have been affected by cancer and serious medical conditions. We value the partnership with Mount Nittany Health, as they help connect individuals in need with our organization,” said Samantha Ream Haas, executive director, Team Ream.

From the reimbursement of treatment travel expenses, to helping provide Christmas gifts for a family whose mother is fighting Stage IV cancer, the Team Ream Fund helps local families in need.

This year’s Team Ream Fighter of the Year, Katie Wheeler, was highlighted during the January 13 game. Cancer is a journey that involves so many people and because of the support from family and friends and Team Ream, Katie’s journey has a happy ending.

To support the Team Ream Fund in their efforts, consider attending one of their many events held throughout the year. For more information, visit teamream.org or contact The Foundation at 814.234.6777.
