Mount Nittany Health administered its first Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccinations to Mount Nittany Medical Center direct care staff last Friday, December 18.

Mount Nittany Health received a shipment of the newly-approved COVID-19 vaccine today, December 16, and plans to begin immunizing its direct care staff and providers this week, according to the health system’s COVID-19 vaccine response task force.

With the continuing high numbers of COVID cases in the community and in the hospital, Mount Nittany Health announced today that it is moving forward with additional surge planning measures as part of its pandemic response plan.

Nirmal Joshi, MD, FACP, chief medical officer, Mount Nittany Health, and Tiffany Cabibbo, DSc, MSN, RN, CENP executive vice president and chief nursing officer, Mount Nittany Health, join 400 physician and nurse leaders from around the Commonwealth urging residents to do all they can to stop the spread of COVID-19.

More than ever, we need our community to come together to stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask anytime you are outside your home, practicing social distancing, and washing hands frequently.

COVID-19 is surging across the country and the increased numbers we are seeing in our own community are certainly a cause for concern. Even with the prospects for a vaccine looking good, the virus will be part of our lives for at least several months and perhaps longer.
