Known for her compassion, professionalism, and commitment to doing what is right, Angel exemplifies integrity in every interaction. Whether finding a solution for a patient in need, guiding a team through a complex financial challenge, or offering a calm and steady presence, she consistently goes above and beyond to support both her colleagues and the people we serve. With her deep knowledge, quiet dedication, and willingness to help wherever she’s needed, Angel has become a trusted resource for our organization and a lifeline for countless patients.
For these reasons and many more, Angel Marko, Financial Counselor, Patient Accounts, was recently named our August 2025 Employee of the Month.
Angel embodies the Mount Nittany Health Experience through her everyday actions and reflects each of our six core values. For this recognition, we are especially proud to honor her for the value of Integrity.
Angel was nominated by multiple colleagues. They read:
“We see patients from every walk of life. Some are not fortunate enough to have good insurance coverage when they need it. Many feel frustrated and even consider not getting treatment. When I see this happening, I know Angel is just a call away — always ready to step in to make sure no one ever feels like they cannot get the care they need because of cost. She may not be on the front lines, but she has been vital to enabling us to treat uninsured or underinsured patients.”
“Angel has been absolutely amazing with our Rheumatology department. We have been struggling to find assistance and help for our patients to access treatments ranging from injections to infusions. After exhausting all our options, we know we always have her in our back pocket. She is always willing to reach out to patients to help them see if they qualify for assistance or free care. We have had patients call us after receiving approval who have cried because they were so grateful for the help Angel provided.”
Angel’s work represents hope, dignity, and care for some of our most vulnerable patients. As one nominator described, she is “the wizard behind the curtain,” quietly ensuring that patients have access to the treatments they need. Her integrity makes a lasting impact, not only on the patients she serves but across our entire health system.
Angel began her career at Mount Nittany Health in 2014 in Patient Access, where she worked for five years before joining Patient Accounts as a Customer Service Specialist. Today, as a Financial Counselor, she continues to use her expertise to help patients navigate the complexities of healthcare billing and financial assistance.
A graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola High School, Angel served in the United States Army as a Finance Specialist before earning her associate’s degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix. In addition to her career in healthcare, she has been a licensed nail technician and cosmetologist for 31 years.
Reflecting on what she loves most about her role, Angel shared:
“What I love most about my job is the relief that I can bring to our patients, easing the worry of how they are going to pay for services by providing our financial assistance program to them. I tell the patient, ‘Please focus on feeling better and your road to recovery — the last thing you need to worry about is how you are going to pay the bills.’ I love my department, and without every single one of them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They are the absolute best!”
Outside of work, Angel enjoys spending time with her family, taking weekend trips to little-known places, and reading. She also has a passion for doing nails as a creative outlet.
Angel lives in Osceola Mills with her husband, Steve, who has worked in the Operating Room at Mount Nittany Health for 25 years. Together, they have six children: Justus, Caitlin, Noah, Megan, Morgan, and Isaiah, and share their home with their three dogs, Rocko, Winston, and Enzo.
We are honored to recognize Angel Marko as our August 2025 Employee of the Month. Angel, thank you for your caring, teamwork, and integrity, and for all you do to support our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
