COVID-19 Vaccine

Following the recent decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to withdraw emergency use authorizations that were implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, the process for COVID-19 vaccines has changed.

As we head into the 2025/2026 respiratory virus season, you can still receive COVID-19 vaccines at Mount Nittany Health. However, if you wish to get vaccinated at a retail pharmacy, you may need a prescription from your healthcare provider.

We continue to closely monitor updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and other regulatory agencies to ensure our vaccination practices remain aligned with current public health recommendations.

Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization and complications from COVID-19 — helping protect both you and the community.

Updated COVID-19 vaccination recommendations

The following recommendations are designed to provide the best protection against severe illness, based on age and health risk.

Where to get your COVID-19 vaccine

If you are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine or have questions about your eligibility, please contact your primary care provider’s office.

Your primary care team can:

  • Review your eligibility
  • Answer questions about which vaccine is right for you
  • Help you schedule an appointment when vaccines are available

You may experience mild side effects after the COVID-19 vaccine — like soreness at the injection site, fatigue, headache or low-grade fever — which usually go away within 24 to 48 hours and signal that your body is building protection.

If you’ve had severe allergic reactions to vaccines in the past, consult your primary care provider before getting vaccinated. And if you experience a serious reaction after your shot, call 911 immediately.

The COVID-19 vaccine can be received at the same time as the flu vaccine when you schedule an in-person appointment with one of our providers.
