Breton VanSyoc, Clinical Trainer, Mount Nittany Health Orthopedics, makes a huge difference in the lives of his colleagues and the patients he treats. He is reliable and always available to help when needed. Breton is constantly praised by individuals throughout the Orthopedics practice for his positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond in every situation. He makes it a priority to always act in the best interest of the patients he serves and the organization.
Breton exemplifies all of Mount Nittany Health’s values of caring, excellence, integrity, respect, teamwork, and stewardship. For the Employee of the Month Honor, he is being recognized for epitomizing the core value of teamwork each day.
Breton was nominated by several of his colleagues multiple months in a row. His nomination read: “This employee is a rare individual who is never without a smile, and they brighten every room. They are never too busy to help with any job. Recently, they even parked a car for a patient who fell down and was taken to the Emergency Department. They lighten the load for everyone – from the front desk staff to the providers. There is not much this employee can’t do and they are always enthusiastic about taking on new tasks. This person helps out 24/7 and is always the last to leave, but not before checking if anything else needs to be completed for the day. We are so lucky to have them.”
Breton currently resides in State College and has been a member of the Mount Nittany Health family for nearly two years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health Promotion from the University of Wyoming where he also earned a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science. From 2015 through 2021, Breton served his country as a member of the Army National Guard’s Indirect Fire Infantry unit. He spent three years as part of the 1st-297th Infantry Regiment, Wyoming Army National Guard, and three years with C-CO 2nd-112th Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard. He also holds a certification as a strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Breton was incredibly honored to be named Employee of the Month. “Each day I try to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me,” he said. “I work with an amazing group of individuals and I am grateful for their recognition. The best thing about the Orthopedics office is how well we work together as a team.”
When asked about his favorite part of his job, Breton said, “I enjoy interacting with, educating, and helping everyone. A lot of the patients I work with have fractures and/or are recovering from injuries or surgery, so being able to help them heal with casting and bracing is very rewarding. I embrace the challenges that arise from providing individualized care.”
When Breton isn’t busy serving the Centre region, he enjoys camping, hiking, hunting, and exploring new state and national parks. He is grateful for his spouse, Emily, who is a postdoctoral researcher at the Penn State One Health Microbiome Center. Breton and Emily have two rescue dogs: Cerberus “Cerby,” who is a five-year-old brindle Great Dane and Curtis, a four-year-old American shorthair pointer.
With 2,400 amazing employees, serving 19 locations throughout the Centre region, being selected as Employee of the Month is an incredible honor! Breton, thank you for all you do, and for contributing to our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
