Celebrate Mount Nittany Health’s Exceptional Nurses with a Meaningful Gift

During the week of May 6 – 12, Mount Nittany Health will proudly recognize National Nurses Week, a time to celebrate our exceptional nurses and all they do for our patients and community. More than 800 nurses fill important roles throughout our health system, compromising one-third of our staff. Their dedication to the health and well-being of our patients, and the comfort of their families and loved ones, is truly inspiring.

Mount Nittany Health nurses care for patients and their families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. We wish to share one touching story with you that highlights the incredible way Darrian Woods, RN, who is part of our Critical Care Unit, helped a family through a challenging time.

Darrian Woods, RN

After spending three weeks in the hospital, a 44-year-old patient needed to share with his children, ages four to 15, that he had widely metastatic cancer. Darrian took special care to have the patient dressed in his home clothes, and she worked to de-hospitalize the room for the conversation. She even had snacks available for the children, to try to make an exceedingly difficult situation just a bit easier. Darrian showed great empathy, grace, and compassion as she took a human approach to care, on what was undoubtedly the hardest day of this family’s life.

The excellent care this family received from Mount Nittany Health nurses happens each day, and we are always filled with immense pride and gratitude as we are reminded of the extraordinary reputation of our team. Time and again, we hear stories about how the dedication, compassion, and expertise of our nurses sets Mount Nittany Health apart.

This Nurses Week, we are asking you to donate in support of our incredible nurses. To give to the Nursing Department Fund, the Staff Well-Being and Education Fund, or the Patient Tower Fund, please visit mountnittany.org/donate or call 814.234.6777. You may also mail a check to:

By supporting these important caregivers, you are also supporting the healthcare needs of our community. To further share your appreciation with a specific nurse, leave a comment with your donation, and we will notify the individual that you have made a gift in their honor.
