Emily Savering, RN, Emergency Department, Mount Nittany Medical Center, is a dedicated and empathetic clinician who consistently goes above and beyond for her patients and their families. She exemplifies Mount Nittany Health’s core values of excellence and teamwork through her commitment to providing exceptional care.
Recently, Emily was honored with a DAISY Award after being recognized by Life Flight for the extraordinary support she provided to the mother of a critically ill patient, ensuring comfort and compassion during a critical moment.
Emily’s nomination read:
“We (Life Flight) arrived at Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Emergency Department to care for a very sick pediatric patient. The patient’s mother was at the bedside. Due to the acuity of the patient and the risk of decompensation, we decided to intubate the child before transport, which also meant we could not transport the mother for safety reasons. This came as an obvious shock to her, leaving her physically and emotionally distraught and unable to drive safely.
Emily immediately offered to help without a second thought. She clocked out of her shift early (with approval, of course) and drove the mother to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville—a 1.5-hour drive—while pregnant, ensuring she had a safe ride to be with her sick child. We truly believe this selfless act deserves recognition. Emily went above and beyond for this patient and their family.”
Emily has been part of the Mount Nittany Health family for the past eight years. Before becoming a nurse, she served as a telemetry monitor clerk. She earned an Associate of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lock Haven University and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Penn State University. She is also a clinical instructor of nursing at the Geisinger Lewistown School of Nursing.
Emily was honored to receive a DAISY Award and shared what she loves about her profession: “I love calm chaos,” said Emily. “This award is a reminder that each day is a new opportunity to do something kind for others and that even the little things do not go unnoticed.” She takes great pride in providing outstanding care in the Emergency Department and appreciates having the opportunity to help patients during some of their most difficult moments.
When Emily isn’t making a positive impact on the lives of those she serves, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and watching HGTV. She is grateful for the love and support of her husband, AJ; her children, Jackson and Lainey; and her adorable golden retriever, Leo.
Please join us in congratulating Emily for embodying the Mount Nittany Health Experience and for being our most recent DAISY Award recipient. Emily, thank you for all you do for our patients and your colleagues and for contributing to our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
