Innovative upgrades enhance imaging capabilities and patient experience
Mount Nittany Health is proud to announce the completion of the multi-year renovation of the Diagnostic Pavilion at Mount Nittany Medical Center, marking a milestone in the organization’s continued investment in advanced diagnostic services and patient-centered care.
Launched in 2022, the renovation project has improved clinical technology, patient access, and the work environment for healthcare professionals. The final phase of the project included updates in MRI:
- The installation of a new 3.0T MRI system. The 3.0T MRI allows for high-resolution studies, including advanced neurological and prostate imaging, that were previously unavailable within the region.
- An existing 1.5T MRI system was fully upgraded to reduce scan times and increase scheduling efficiency; reducing the average patient exam by approximately 10 minutes.
“These upgrades allow us to offer faster, more accurate diagnostics while improving access for patients and providers, all while keeping services close to home,” said Amy Trithart, Chief Human Resources and Ancillary Services Officer. “This project reflects Mount Nittany Health’s commitment to investing in both patient care and the team members who make it possible.”
The Diagnostic Pavilion’s imaging department operates 24/7, conducting nearly 160,000 imaging studies each year including more than 48,000 CT scans, 10,000 MRIs, 18,000 ultrasounds, and 20,000 mammograms. As the region’s population grows, especially among retirees, demand for diagnostic services is expected to rise.
In addition to clinical upgrades, the renovation also transformed staff spaces to support those on the front lines of care. Enhancements include dedicated RN workspaces, modernized locker and dressing rooms, and improved staff lounges. The reconfigured layout is in closer proximity to the Emergency Department, promoting faster, more coordinated care for patients requiring urgent imaging.
For patients, the pavilion now features modern waiting areas and streamlined workflows designed to minimize wait times and maximize comfort.
The completion of the Diagnostic Pavilion ensures the health system remains well-equipped to meet the diagnostic needs of the community.
