AHA Training Center

Mission Statement

The mission of the Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Community Training Center (TC) is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke. This mission mirrors stated American Heart Association goals. The training center works to achieve this goal by educating the community to improve the AHA Chain of Survival.

BLS (Basic Life Support)

The BLS course is designed for healthcare providers who care for people both in and out of the hospital. The course includes video-driven lecture and skills practice sessions to teach high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for victims of all ages as a single rescuer and as a member of a team. Instruction includes ventilation with a barrier device and bag-mask device, use of an AED, and relief of foreign body airway obstruction in responsive and nonresponsive victims.

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

The ACLS course is intended for physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other health care providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. This course includes video-driven lectures and active participation to enhance your clinical knowledge and skills in the recognition and treatment of cardiopulmonary emergencies.

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

The PALS course is designed for physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other healthcare providers who manage respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This course includes video-driven lectures and active participation to enhance your clinical knowledge and skills in the recognition and treatment of respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.

PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization)

The PEARS course is designed for EMTs, nurses, and other healthcare providers who care for seriously ill infants and children. This course includes video-driven lectures and active participation to enhance your clinical knowledge and skills in recognizing respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest and to provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider.
