September 28th: 5th Annual Adam Zook Memorial Run

The 5th Annual Adam Zook Memorial Run funds scholarships and supports local suicide prevention initiatives within the Tyrone Area High School and surrounding community. It will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The 5k run, 9.88 mile run, and 2-mile walk will be held at Reservoir Park in Tyrone, PA. “988” is in reference to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Adam graduated from Tyrone Area High School in 2016 where he competed in mock trial, performed in the school musicals, and served as editor of the school newspaper. As a member of the cross country & track teams, Adam earned numerous awards including qualifying for the state championship meet twice. Adam went on to attend Slippery Rock University as a communications major and pursue his passion for journalism. Most notably, Adam will be remembered for his vibrant spirit and compassionate nature. He truly lived by his personal motto, “Be kind to others, you never know when they may need that hello.”

In Adam’s memory, the race proceeds will be used towards a scholarship fund invested with the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation, a registered 501C3. Three $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding student leaders and athletes in the Tyrone Area School District. The Adam Zook Memorial Run will also provide an opportunity to strengthen our sense of community while establishing an open dialogue concerning mental health and suicide prevention. Through our social media pages, the committee has shared articles and tips for productive conversations, inspirational messages, and the local crisis hotline resources reaching thousands of views. Our committee is also working with the Tyrone Area School District to improve mental health education and resources for both teachers and students.

Mount Nittany Health is one of our run sponsors for the fifth year in a row.

Sign up to run the 5k run, 9.88 mile run, or 2 mile walk. It will be open for ONLINE registration through September 18th. We will also have IN-PERSON registration on the day of the run from 7-8am (run/walk begins at 8:30am).
