National Nurses Week is just around the corner, and we at Mount Nittany Health are excited to honor the dedication and compassion of our nurses. From May 6–12, we will be celebrating the exceptional care that nurses provide to our patients and the community, and we invite you to join us in showing appreciation for their commitment.
Mount Nittany Health nurses are at the heart of everything we do, making a profound impact on our patients and their families every single day. Whether it’s providing expert medical care, offering a comforting presence during difficult moments, or going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of both patients and their loved ones, our nurses are truly extraordinary. Their compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication are evident in every interaction, making a difference that extends far beyond just treatment. From the smallest gestures of care to life-saving interventions, our nurses create an environment where healing, hope, and comfort flourish.

Emily Savering, RN
One remarkable story that highlights the profound impact of our nurses is that of Emily Savering, RN, Emergency Department, Mount Nittany Medical Center. Emily, a recent recipient of the DAISY Award, demonstrated extraordinary compassion during a difficult time.
A pediatric patient was being airlifted by Life Flight to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, and while the child’s mother was devastated and unable to ride in the helicopter due to the nature of her child’s condition, Emily stepped up in a truly selfless way. Even though Emily was pregnant at the time, she clocked out early from her shift and drove the mother 1.5 hours to Danville so she could be with her child when the helicopter arrived. This is just one of many examples of the incredible care and empathy our nurses demonstrate every day.
Created in honor of Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease, the DAISY Award recognizes exceptional nurses who go above and beyond. Emily’s dedication to the health and well-being of her patients and their families is just one reflection of the countless ways our nurses improve lives.
