Mount Nittany Health Celebrates DAISY Award Winner, Michael Culver, RN

Michael Culver, RN, plays an instrumental role as part of Mount Nittany Health’s Critical Care Services team. He goes above and beyond for his patients, and is respected by his colleagues. Recently, Michael was honored with a DAISY Award for providing exceptional care to a patient being treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Michael’s nomination read, “Bravo, Mike! You are the absolute best! I am writing this thank you for my husband who shared his enthusiastic impression with me but does not speak or write English. He loved Mike’s care and Mike so much that he has missed him dearly after being discharged and mentions him daily. Some of the words my husband used to characterize Mike were ‘competent,’ ‘kind,’ ‘empathetic,’ and ‘respectful.’ He mentioned this in comparison to times in the past when other caregivers called him ‘buddy,’ an American expression that does not sound dignified to an 89-year-old European male. When I visited and interacted with Mike, I could see what my husband meant. Mike is truly the best!”

Michael has been providing compassionate care to Mount Nittany Health patients for two years, first as part of the Med/Tele team, and now as a member of Critical Care Services. Before becoming a nurse, he attended Luzerne County Community College.

Michael was honored to be selected as a DAISY Award Winner, and acknowledged that he enjoys making a difference in the lives of those he serves, and noted the importance of teamwork. “The thing I like best about my job is being able to make an impact on my patients during some of their most vulnerable moments,” said Michael. “When I received my award, I felt like there were many other great nurses who also deserved it.”

When he is not busy serving the community, Michael enjoys going to the gym, spending time with his daughter, and playing with his dog. He currently resides in Centre Hall, and enjoys the love and support of his wife, Olivia; his daughter, Eliana; and his dog, Oakley.

Please join us in applauding Michael for epitomizing the core values of respect, integrity, caring, and excellence, and for being a DAISY Award recipient. Michael, thank you for your commitment to providing compassionate care and for contributing to our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
