Mount Nittany Health is pleased to announce that the sleep lab has received accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), joining the ranks of AASM accredited programs that are committed to the highest quality of patient care.
“I’m very proud of our providers and staff who have worked hard to achieve this accreditation,” said Jessica Newlen, RN, CWCA, Manager, Outpatient Services, Mount Nittany Health. “It is a testament to the exceptional care they provide our patients each day.”
Restful sleep is a crucial component of overall health and wellbeing, which is why Mount Nittany Health Sleep Medicine’s providers, registered sleep technologists, and staff, are committed to diagnosing and treating various sleep conditions like daytime drowsiness, insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and more.
Led by board-certified sleep specialists, Gregory A. Ruff, MD, D.ABSM, FAASM, and John Solic, MD, Sleep Medicine’s state-of-the-art sleep center uses advanced tools like polysomnography to monitor physiological factors during sleep, including brain activity, eye movement, heart rate, and respiratory function.
The AASM is the only professional society dedicated exclusively to the medical subspecialty of sleep medicine. It sets standards and promotes excellence in sleep medicine health care, education, and research.
“This certification from the AASM was only possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff,” said Dr. Ruff. “From the managers to the schedulers to the technicians, there is a commitment to quality care and doing the right thing for the patient.”
To receive accreditation, sleep centers must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. The accreditation includes an extensive in person visit of the sleep lab and staff interviews.
“We are proud to be one of the 74 AASM certified sleep centers in Pennsylvania, and the only one located in Centre County,” added Dr. Ruff.
The AASM is committed to ensuring that those in the field of sleep medicine provide excellent healthcare and enhance the awareness of sleep as an essential element for health, public safety, and quality of life. Successfully completing the accreditation process and upholding accreditation standards is evidence of Mount Nittany Health’s dedication to the advancement of the sleep field.
