Once again, Mount Nittany Medical Center has been named one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals by Newsweek. Now in its third year, these rankings were designed to help expecting parents find high-quality medical care.
“The Women and Children’s Services Unit at Mount Nittany Medical Center is dedicated to providing clinical excellence,” said Jessica Lewis, MSN, RNC-OB, NE-BC, Manager, Women and Children’s Services, Mount Nittany Health. “We are grateful for this recognition which underscores the community’s trust in us to provide high-quality care to expectant mothers and their babies.”
According to Newsweek, the ranking features the nation’s 404 leading maternity hospitals in the US and is based on a nationwide online survey of hospital managers and medical professionals, as well as publicly available data from hospital surveys addressing the patient experience. Data on hospital quality metrics—like the number of elective deliveries and level of personnel vaccination—was provided from several sources, including nonprofit hospital accreditation organization The Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
The largest unit of its kind in the region, the Joseph V. and Suzanne P. Paterno Women and Children’s Services Unit at Mount Nittany Medical Center welcomes nearly 1,300 babies to our community each year. The Women and Children’s Services Unit combines state-of-the-art technology and clinical spaces with modern design and family-centered comforts including: six private labor and delivery rooms; two triage rooms; an advanced technology surgical suite; level I and level II nurseries; eleven private postpartum rooms; private lactation consultant area; amenities for partners, including sofa sleepers and refreshment area; and cozy family waiting areas.
