Mount Nittany Health is proud to announce that Mount Nittany Medical Center has been honored with the 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition from the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP). This prestigious award recognizes the top-performing hospitals in Pennsylvania for their exemplary commitment to minimizing healthcare-associated infections.
“Patient safety is our top priority,” said Courtney Maholtz, RN, CPHQ, Director, Quality and Patient Safety Officer, Mount Nittany Health. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff and providers who work tirelessly to deliver safe, high-quality care to our patients. We are grateful for the trust our community places in Mount Nittany Health, and we remain committed to providing compassionate, reliable care.”
HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings praised the award recipients, stating, “HAP is proud to honor Pennsylvania hospitals that have achieved exceptional results through their dedication to ongoing quality and safety improvements.”
The 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition recipients were announced during HAP’s Patient Safety, Quality, and Equity Symposium in Harrisburg. Now in its sixth year, the program celebrates Pennsylvania hospitals that demonstrate low rates of healthcare-associated infections.
Mount Nittany Medical Center is one of just 22 hospitals across the state to receive this recognition. HAP uses data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network to evaluate performance. Hospitals must exceed the mean standardized infection ratio in three critical areas: central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and Clostridioides difficile infections.
This award follows several recent accolades for Mount Nittany Medical Center, including a Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the sixth consecutive reporting period. Additionally, the hospital was named one of the “World’s Best Hospitals 2024” and “America’s Best Maternity Hospitals” by Newsweek, and earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for quality care and patient safety.
