Steve Davis, RN, is a wonderful part of Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Emergency Department team. He goes above and beyond for patients, and is well-respected by his colleagues. Recently, Steve was honored with a DAISY Award for exceeding the expectations of a patient being treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Steve’s nominator said, “Everything about Steve was uplifting. I was extremely anxious and sleep deprived, and Steve found a way to connect with me. His demeanor put me at ease, despite my circumstances/symptoms. He listened to me and his care was fantastic. He is by far the best nurse I’ve ever had. Mount Nittany Health has a real gem in Steve! Steve was also wonderful at making small talk, which helped distract me from my situation and amazingly, made me smile. I loved his jokes and he was completely professional. He seems incredibly smart too.”
Steve has been providing exceptional care to Mount Nittany Health patients for six months. He developed a passion for medicine much earlier in life when he trained as an EMT in Salinas, California. After serving with the California Army National Guard unit, Steve obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Seattle University. For many years, he served as an officer in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, where he completed the Critical Care Emergency Room Nurse course. Before being deployed to Iraq, he received Trauma Nursing and Battlefield Injury training. While in Baghdad, Iraq, he was part of two units that cared for injured soldiers.
Steve was honored to be selected as a DAISY Award Winner, and he acknowledged the importance of teamwork. “I enjoy being part of a team, and that is what I feel is the core element of being an ED nurse,” said Steve. “I would not have received this award without the rest of the team.”

Created by the family of Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease in 1999, the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international program designed to recognize exceptional care in the nursing community. A global program with over 5,000 participating healthcare facilities across all 50 states and 31 countries, nurses throughout Mount Nittany Health have the opportunity to receive prestigious recognition as DASIY award recipients.
