Whitney Soliday, RN, is a wonderful part of Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Progressive Care Unit. She is a kind and compassionate clinician who always goes above and beyond for her patients and colleagues. Recently, Soliday was honored with a DAISY Award for her exceptional care.
“We were so fortunate that during her stay, my mom was treated by a number of wonderful nurses,” wrote her nominators. “One nurse in particular was Whitney. What stuck out to us was how kind, genuine, and compassionate she was. Whitney would regularly check in on my mom, not only to see how she was doing, but to see if she needed anything. We got a sense that she did this because she wanted to, and not because it was part of her job. Her warm personality and kind demeanor showed that she truly cared for our mom and I know that carries to her other patients as well. She patiently answered all of our questions and gave us helpful tips and suggestions. This was incredibly helpful during such a scary time because of the medical issues my mom was experiencing. We wanted to thank Whitney for being such a reassuring presence for our mom, and for us, while she was receiving treatment. Whitney, thank you for taking such good care of our mom. We won’t forget you.”
Soliday has been providing five-star care at Mount Nittany Medical Center for nearly two years. Before joining the Mount Nittany Health family, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Clarion University.
“My favorite part of being a nurse is helping my patients feel better,” said Soliday. “It’s extremely rewarding to me to help people when they are feeling their worst, and to see them recover so they can get back to their loved ones. I also enjoy the continuous learning opportunities I am presented with as part of the Progressive Care Unit.”
Soliday was incredibly grateful to be selected as a DAISY Award winner and acknowledged her wonderful colleagues. “I feel honored to have received the DAISY Award,” said Soliday. “I am very critical of myself and my work, so I would never think that I am deserving of such recognition. It feels good to know my passion for nursing does not go unnoticed. The best thing about my department is that we work together as a team, and my colleagues go above and beyond to make sure patients are well cared for if the primary nurse isn’t available.”
When she is not busy serving the community, Soliday enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys the company of her five-year-old Boston terrier, Millie.
Created by the family of Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease in 1999, the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international program designed to recognize exceptional care in the nursing community.
