Mount Nittany Health is fortunate to have an incredible Facilities and Plant Operations team to manage its more than 900,000 square feet of space, spread over 19 locations in the Centre region, where physicians, nurses, and support staff provide exceptional care to the community. Kevin McKinney, Manager, Facilities and Plant Operations, oversees this massive scope of work, while continually exemplifying Mount Nittany Health’s value of stewardship.

“Stewardship is developing a strong understanding of you role and responsibilities and carrying out those duties through your actions.”

Managing such a large number of facilities, including the 638,000 square foot Mount Nittany Medical Center, requires extensive knowledge and experience, and Kevin’s expertise in this area is evident in his work. He oversees the maintenance and repair of the medical center’s many systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, ensuring that they are in optimal condition at all times. Kevin also oversees the cleaning and maintenance of the hospital’s public areas, ensuring that patients and visitors are greeted by a clean and welcoming environment.

During a time of growth within the medical system, Kevin’s contributions to Mount Nittany Health have been significant. As the Facilities and Plant Operations Manager, he is also closely coordinating new construction projects, like the new Patient Tower and the new Outpatient Center at Toftrees West. He understands the importance of these projects to the community and his role is to make sure the new spaces meet regulatory compliance set by The Joint Commission. He is working closely with members of the Mount Nittany Health design team to make sure the new building projects are safe, compliant and conducive for patients, staff, and visitors.

Kevin’s stewardship extends beyond the hospital’s physical assets to the people who work there. He values his team and invests in their professional development, ensuring that they have the training and support they need to perform their jobs effectively. Kevin also fosters a culture of respect and collaboration, encouraging his team to work together to achieve common goals.

“Everything we do is a team effort,” said Kevin. “We all work together to make sure we are successful. You never know what challenges you will be met with on a daily basis, so it is important to keep an open and positive mindset, and to bring your ‘A game’ each day!”
