Glenn and Lois Moyer have made a generous naming gift to the Mount Nittany Health Foundation in honor of their late son, Tobias “Toby” Moyer. This gift, which will support the Mount Nittany Health Toftrees location, is a poignant reflection of their passion for supporting a local, community-based, independent health system and their desire to leave a lasting impact on the Centre region.
“The Moyers’ gift is a testament to the power of community and the enduring impact of kindness,” said Kathleen Rhine, President and CEO, Mount Nittany Health. “Their support will enhance the quality of healthcare in our region for generations to come.”
The Moyers’ belief in the importance of a small community health system resonates strongly with their decision to support Mount Nittany Health. Through their gift, the Moyers are ensuring that the tracks they leave in the sand will guide others towards a future where healthcare is accessible, affordable, and exceptional.
“We hope our philanthropy and gift to the Mount Nittany Health Foundation helps keep healthcare costs down for others,” said Glenn. “We are doing this for the community. It’s about ensuring everyone has access to quality care. We have been so fortunate in our lives, and we are now at a point where we can live the life we want to live. We want to give back. We want to leave a legacy of giving and having left our community better than when we arrived.”
Lois echoed this sentiment, saying, “Tobias received wonderful care from Mount Nittany Health, and we want to honor his memory by helping the community and ensuring everyone in the community has access to high-quality healthcare.”
Tobias’ life was marked by adventure and determination. Tragically, he was killed in a hit-and-run accident in February 2022, shy of his 41st birthday, while riding a onewheel on North Hutchinson Island, Florida. Despite living with the pain of a spinal cord disorder, Tobias always maintained an adventurous spirit and a positive outlook on life. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, Scuba diving, and snowboarding. He was a dedicated member of the Conklin Hollow Land Association and was particularly fond of riding his onewheel. He was also a proud Penn State alumnus where he received his Bachelor of Science in Crime, Law, and Justice with a minor in Law and Business in 2003. He received his Juris Doctorate in Law from the American University, Washington College of Law in 2010. Tobias and his wife, Beth, lived in Fairfax, Virginia, where she resides today.
During his time at Penn State, he often found himself in the Emergency Department because of his chronic spinal cord disorder, where he received exceptional care from many different providers. Notably, he formed strong relationships with Pete Roy, MD, Neurology, Mount Nittany Health, and Paul Sherbondy, MD, Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Penn State Health.
Glenn and Lois’ journey is one of dedication and service. Glenn, a Penn State graduate, served in the United States Marine Corps and later worked for AT&T and Lucent Technologies. After a distinguished career, he retired and pursued his passion for entrepreneurship, owning a John Deere dealership in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lois is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania. In addition to her career with Bell of Pennsylvania, she dedicated her life to raising their children and contributing to the community. After 30 years of career relocations within the United States, Lois and Glenn retired to State College, the community in which they were married and raised their two sons.
Adrienne Krasowitz, Executive Director of the Mount Nittany Health Foundation, also acknowledged the significance of this gift. “Glenn and Lois‘ commitment to honoring their son’s legacy is deeply moving. Their gift will make a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals in our community,” she said.
In addition to their philanthropy to the Mount Nittany Health Foundation, the Moyers have established scholarships to support students who may not have the means to pursue higher education. Their guiding principle of offering philanthropic support has shaped their volunteer contributions to various causes, including the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
The Moyers’ contribution is a call to action for others to join in supporting the Mount Nittany Health Foundation’s fundraising goals. Their generosity exemplifies the spirit of giving back and making a meaningful difference.
Tobias’ legacy lives on through the hearts he touched and the lives his parents’ philanthropy will improve. His love for life, hunger for adventure, and his passion for helping others continue to inspire all who knew him. The Moyer family’s dedication to giving back serves as an enduring reminder that together, we can make our community a better place.
Glenn and Lois cherish their time with their two surviving children, Jamie Giamalis and Matthew Moyer. Jamie, and her husband, James, live in Macungie, Pennsylvania, with their three children: Amanda, Sydney, and Christian. Matthew and his wife, Danielle, reside in Perth, Australia, with their daughters Amelia and Alexandra.
