May 6 – 12 is National Nurses Week, a time when we recognize the remarkable contributions of our skilled nursing team who provide comprehensive care to those throughout the Centre region. More than 800 nurses serve in various roles across our organization, and their commitment to the health and well-being of our patients, as well as the comfort of their families and loved ones is inspiring.
Our nurses are the compassionate faces that guide patients and their families through some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Allow me to highlight one poignant story that illustrates the extraordinary care exemplified by our team.
Darrian Woods, RN, a member of our Critical Care Unit, demonstrated remarkable empathy and grace during a particularly challenging time for one family. When a 44-year-old patient needed to have a difficult conversation with his children about his widely metastatic cancer diagnosis, Darrian went above and beyond to help the family. She made sure the patient was dressed in his home clothes and transformed the hospital room into a more comforting space for the conversation. Darrian’s thoughtful gestures eased the burden of an exceedingly tough situation. Her human-centric approach to care on what was undoubtedly the hardest day of this family’s life is a testament to the exceptional caliber of our nursing staff.
Stories like these reaffirm the outstanding reputation of Mount Nittany Health. Our nurses’ dedication, compassion, and expertise consistently set us apart and remind us of the profound impact we have on the lives of those we serve.
I wish to express my deep gratitude and immense pride in the exceptional care provided by our team each day. Your dedication, compassion and commitment to excellence make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you for everything and happy Nurses Week!
