Mount Nittany Health is pleased to introduce Karlye Gentzyel, MSPAS, PA-C, as a new provider to our Mount Nittany Health Surgical Associates team. With her strong connection to rural communities and extensive trauma and emergency general surgery background, Karlye brings a valuable skillset to our organization.
According to Karlye, “Working in a community hospital is important to me because of my rural upbringing. The fact that Mount Nittany Health is focused on serving the community feels good. It’s a way for me to give back,” she shared.
Having a background in trauma and emergency surgery, Karlye is excited about transitioning into general surgery. “General surgery allows me to continue doing what I love, but in a less hectic environment,” she said.
She finds the field rewarding, particularly following patients’ progress. “You get to see them at their worst and after their recovery,” Karlye shared. “Seeing the progress during their hospital stay, seeing them getting better each day by the time they get discharged—that’s truly motivating.”
Her approach to patient care is holistic and personal, “It’s important to help patients with their physical ailments while also encompassing the spiritual elements of their lives,” she said. “I like to talk to patients as if they’re family members or friends, putting myself in their shoes and explaining everything as we go. I involve them in their care and ensure they’re clear about their care plan.”
“I try to connect personally with each individual patient, to find one thing to make that personal connection,” Karlye explained. “Sitting down and talking to people, to get to know them more – it goes a long way in patient care.”
Karlye holds a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Marywood University.
Outside of work, Karlye has two cats and enjoys an active lifestyle with outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, kayaking, and camping. She’s also a big Penn State fan with season tickets to football games.
With her rural roots, surgical experience, and commitment to personalized patient care, Karlye’s skills and dedication will greatly benefit our patients and contribute to our mission of providing excellent community-focused healthcare.
