Comprehensive care
Comprehensive cancer care combines the most innovative cancer therapies with compassionate, patient-centered care to treat every aspect of the disease.
Cancer care involves prevention and education; accurate diagnosis and precision in treatment; emotional and spiritual support; and research and rehabilitation. The Cancer Program at Mount Nittany Medical Center orchestrates all phases of the process to make the experience more manageable for patients and their families.
We offer an incredible array of progressive cancer services and leading-edge technologies for diagnosis, treatment and therapy. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are the foundation to good cancer care and are available here, but complete cancer care is so much more.
Compassionate care
True patient care extends beyond purely medical issues. We recognize that cancer doesn’t just affect patients physically, but also practically and emotionally.
As more people survive cancer, life after treatment has become an increasingly important aspect of care. That’s why our patients have access to therapists, nutritionists, rehabilitation specialists, social workers, pastoral care providers and counselors and survivor support groups to continue along the path to better health.
The Cancer Institute
Most cancer centers are located in densely populated areas, leaving rural areas vastly underserved by the latest technologies and clinical research trials. Unique to Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute is its network of medical institutions that serve rural areas in central Pennsylvania, a region that encompasses 27 counties.
The Institute was established in 2000 by founding members Mount Nittany Medical Center, Lehigh Valley Hospital, The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Together, more than 5,800 new cancer patients are treated through the Institute’s facilities yearly — more than at any other cancer center in Pennsylvania.
Our progressive Cancer Program, innovative treatment therapies and advanced technologies have also made us a regional leader in excellent patient-focused care.
Since 1989, Mount Nittany Medical Center’s comprehensive Cancer Program has attained the highest recognition possible: designation as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons.
The Institute also brings the benefits of nationally recognized cancer-related research and education to our community. By combining leading research and clinical care throughout the region, the entire community makes a substantial contribution to the advancement of cancer care while benefiting directly from the development of innovative cancer management.
