Mount Nittany Health Celebrates Employee of the Month, Mike Sechrist

4 min read

Mike Sechrist, Help Desk Support, Information Services, is a tremendous asset to Mount Nittany Health. He goes above and beyond in all situations to see that he can properly address any questions his colleagues may have at Mount Nittany Medical Center and at our other locations. Our organization is a better place because of his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to his work.

Mike epitomizes all of Mount Nittany Health’s core values of caring, excellence, integrity, respect, teamwork, and stewardship. For this honor, he is being recognized for demonstrating excellence each day.

He received multiple nominations for Employee of the Month. They said, “Mike was working overnight on July 19th when the IT outage happened. He worked through the night and into the afternoon of the next day to help get computers back up and running. Thanks to his quick response to the situation, the overnight crew was able to get the rest of the department prepared to handle and resolve the outage. Mike demonstrated an incredible ability to keep his composure and follow protocol in order to handle the problem effectively. Without his swift action, we may have had our response to the issue delayed before getting back to normalcy. Beyond July 19th, Mike is very dedicated and always willing to help others with any technical problems they may have.”

Mike currently lives in Bellefonte and has served Mount Nittany Health as part of the Help Desk Support team for just over two years. Before joining the health system, Mike worked at Penn State as a Multimedia Specialist in the College of Engineering and as a Help Desk coordinator for University Libraries. He has also helped the Bellefonte Area School District with their computer systems and worked at a computer store in Lock Haven. He graduated with a Business Administration degree from Lock Haven University and before attending college, was proudly awarded an Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America.

“I was so excited when Mount Nittany Health hired me and have enjoyed my job ever since joining the team,” said Mike. “I don’t like change very much, so leaving Penn State was a difficult decision for me, but I am so glad I did because I work with a great group of people.”

Mike was very honored to be named Employee of the Month. He said, “I feel like everyone in the Information Services department works hard each day. We all work well side-by-side together and there is always someone to help you if you get stuck on a stubborn issue.”

Although he enjoys most parts of his job, he finds working with people rewarding. “I love helping others every day with their computer issues. I enjoy going around, talking with other employees, and helping them with any issue they have. I also like the challenges the job throws at us on a daily basis. Just when you think you’ve figured something out, a new issue pops up. There is never a week that goes by where I don’t learn something new.”

Mike jokingly shares that within Information Services, people often refer to him as “Michael Recycle,” and says, “I may hold onto some older tech a little longer than some people, but you never know when it might come in handy!”

When asked what advice he has for other people in the health system, he shares, “When in doubt, restart!”

When Mike isn’t busy helping his colleagues at Mount Nittany Health, he enjoys participating in a bowling league on Tuesday nights. He bowled in high school, college, and has even participated in some tournaments. He also enjoys yard sales and auctions on the weekends. The Grange Fair is one of his favorite events of the year, and you’ll often also find him at Tussey Mountain Wingfest. He enjoys the love and support of his parents, who live in Bellefonte, and his close group of friends.

We are so grateful to have Mike as part of our team and applaud him for being such a wonderful Mount Nittany Health ambassador. Please join us in congratulating him on this incredible honor. Mike, thank you for all you do for our patients, your colleagues, and for contributing to our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
