Mount Nittany Health’s Music Therapy Program helps patients and staff feel better with calming music. Local musicians play relaxing live tunes at the entrance of the Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion.
What is music therapy?
Music therapy helps people feel better by using music. It can promote healing and reduce stress by bringing a sense of calm to the healthcare environment.
Mount Nittany Health’s Music Therapy Program blends music with healthcare to support wellness and recovery. Talented volunteers — from flutists and cellists to guitarists — share their skills to support patients and strengthen the community. With a donated piano onsite, musicians can play solo or with loved ones.
What can music therapy treat?
Live music can make stressful places like hospitals feel calmer and more relaxing. It can also help people feel better emotionally and physically when dealing with long-term health problems. Music therapy can help treat conditions including:
- Cancer
- Stress and anxiety
- Pain management
Music therapy at Mount Nittany Health
Here’s how our Music Therapy Program brings the benefits of music to our patients and staff:
- Live performances: Musicians play soothing live music to help patients, staff and visitors feel calm and relaxed.
- Instrument availability: A piano has been donated for everyone to use, letting pianists play beautiful music that brings joy and calm to those who listen.
- Community engagement: The program helps patients feel better by teaming up with local musicians and building stronger community bonds.
- Volunteer opportunities: Musicians, whether performing alone, in pairs or in groups, are invited to join and spread positivity through their music.
Join Mount Nittany Health’s Music Therapy Program to spread healing and joy through music. Whether you play an instrument or just want to help, you can make a big difference.
