Suzanne Gabel, RN, Critical Care Services, has been an incredible asset to Mount Nittany Health for many years. Her colleagues continually praise her for going above and beyond in every situation. She is a thoughtful and caring nurse who is committed to her team, and who cares deeply for all without judgement.

Gabel was nominated for Employee of the Month by multiple colleagues, and each nomination acknowledges her five-star, compassionate care. She embodies all of Mount Nittany Health’s core values of caring, excellence, integrity, respect, teamwork, and stewardship. For the Employee of the Month honor, she is being recognized for her caring and excellence, and always demonstrating the utmost professionalism.

Gabel’s nominators praised her dedication and commitment to Mount Nittany Health: “Suzanne is a very knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate member of the ICU team. She inspires new staff with her integrity and commitment to her team. She always goes out of her way for patients and her colleagues. During huddle, she constantly gets praise for taking meticulous care of her patients, and she is always willing to help others whether she has a team in the ICU, or she is a float nurse. Suzanne is incredibly kind and caring, which effectively translates into her work as a critical care RN. No matter what she has going on at any given time, she has a positive attitude, and for years she has remained on the night shift. She is SO deserving of this award and she is extremely appreciated by everyone.”

Gabel is from Warriors Mark, Pennsylvania, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Syracuse University. She has been an incredible member of the Mount Nittany Health team for more than nine years. Before joining critical care services, Gabel was part of the middle pool. She is a passionate leader who has contributed to the organization as a preceptor and charge nurse.

Gabel was humbled to be selected as the August 2023 Employee of the Month. “I enjoy being an ICU bedside nurse because I can help someone during one of the worst days of their life,” said Gabel. “I live by the Gandhi quote ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.’”

When Gabel isn’t providing award-winning care at Mount Nittany Medical Center, she enjoys baking, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. She is grateful for the love and support of her wonderful husband, daughter, son, and golden retriever.
