Rehabilitation services offer the practical therapy patients need to regain lost function or improve their physical abilities.
We coordinate non-surgical management of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders and offer physical, occupational and speech therapy services at Mount Nittany Medical Center for patients with a range of disorders and diseases, including:
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Neurological conditions, like stroke and movement disorders
Back and shoulder conditions
Physical therapists evaluate and treat a variety of illnesses and injuries. Strength, mobility, pain, function and endurance are addressed.
Heat, cold, water and electricity are all treatments used in a physical therapy patient's care. Special exercises and training in walking also help patients move normally, without pain.
Occupational therapists use everyday activities to evaluate or treat patients whose ability to function has been affected due to illness or injury.
Treatment goals include working toward independence in self-help skills, restoring impaired function (such as thinking and moving) and educating patients. Activities may include using adaptive equipment or splints to maximize independence and safety in the home environment.
Speech-language pathologists at Mount Nittany Medical Center can provide patients living with speech, language and swallowing disorders with proper evaluation and treatment.
Speech disorders include difficulty producing speech sounds, stuttering and voice problems.
Language disorders involve difficulty understanding and expressing thoughts and ideas.
Swallowing disorders include difficulty chewing, discomfort when swallowing and increased coughing while eating and drinking.
Upon physician request, video-fluoroscopic studies of swallowing functions are performed through Mount Nittany Health’s radiology department. We offer services for both inpatients and outpatients.
