Coconut oil has increased in popularity over the past several years due to its many benefits. It can be used as a cooking oil in the kitchen, to treat damaged hair, and even as a moisturizer for the skin on your body; however, I do not recommend using coconut oil on your face.
Coconut oil is highly comedogenic, which means it clogs the pores on your face. When you apply coconut oil, it simply lays on the surface because the molecules in the oil are far too big to be absorbed into the skin. Therefore, the impurities in your skin cannot escape, leading to trapped sebum in the pores, which causes blackheads and breakouts. Coconut oil can also cause your skin to become oily.
I’m not telling you to put the coconut oil away totally, but there are better options to care for the skin on your face. Look for non-comedogenic moisturizing products that contain hyaluronic acid and glycerin to keep your skin hydrated.
